First Annual Mudbug Festival & 5k Run/Walk
Held May 7, 2011

Crawdads, 5K and Mud Bugs Oh My!!
The first annual Mudbug Festival and 5k Run was a huge success! Thank you for everyone that came out and joined in the fun. Whether it was running the levees in the early morning or enjoying a big plate of crawdads in the afternoon, everyone had a great time! There were 80 participants in the Run/Walk. First place went to Logan Foster, second place to Dylan Evans and third place to Austin Foster. Congratulations to our winners and everyone that walked. At 9:00, the fun and excitement began with presentations, vendor booths and exciting, cool stuff for the kids. Kids had the opportunity to catch a crawfish, make an origami crawfish, learn some crawfish trivia and even have a crawfish painted on their face. There was plenty for adults to do as well. Presentations on Crawfish, Birds of Prey, Bird Rehabilitation and the importance of Honey Bees were held in the Wetland Center. Other educational booths and activities included Texas Tarantulas, Nature Photography, Facility Tours, Birding & Boardwalk tours across our 6/10 of a mile long boardwalk over the wetlands and much more!! What would a festival be without live music? Blue Grass music by a local group from Combine, Texas, the Acoustic Sound Hounds, entertained participants as they enjoyed traditional fair of a Cajun Crawfish Boil. Hamburgers, Hot Dogs and all the fixins where plenty. More than 700 people relaxed, learned and enjoyed nature in a unique environment as they discovered the importance of the Wetlands.
